Can Jeremy Cameron reach the 100-goal mark in the 2025 home and away season?
Following Saturday night’s 11 goal haul against the Kangaroos, the superstar forward has climbed to 69 goals on the season, pulling 21 goals clear of second place of the Coleman Medal race (Mitch Georgiades with 48).
With the medal all but sewn up and Geelong’s more than favourable record, is it feasible for Cameron to target the prestigious century mark?
Looking back on recent history, here’s how his odds stack up:
Although it's far more likely that Cameron will record this feat within the finals series, he would require 31 goals from his remaining four games, or an average of at least 8 goals per game to eclipse the milestone during the home and away season.
While it seems highly unlikely, Cameron has booted 31 goals over the last six weeks, including just one goal against GWS in Round 18, while also kicking 10 behinds within that time. 41 scoring shots over six weeks is equal to nearly seven scores per game, with the Cats recording four wins from six.
The remaining four weeks contains a range of highly favourable contests for Geelong, with the Cats scheduled to face four bottom nine teams to close out the season.
Back-to-back home games against Port Adelaide and Essendon, followed by a trip to the SCG to face the Swans, and an MCG bout with the Tigers marking the final hurdle.
Commencing their final fixtures against the Power, Geelong will enter as heavy favourites following Port Adelaide’s hefty Showdown loss on Saturday night. Earlier in the season, the Cats claimed a 76-point victory over Port Adelaide at the Adelaide Oval, with Cameron booting a handy seven goals from eight scoring shots.
The Bombers follow the Power, with the Cats once against eyeing off a major percentage booster following their 95-point thrashing of Essendon earlier this season. Within that contest, Jeremy Cameron kicked six goals from seven scoring shots.
A trip to Sydney presents as the most difficult fixture of the Cats’ run home, with the two sides set to face off for the first time this season. The last time the Swans hosted the Cats, Sydney ran away as 30-point winners in Round 13 of 2024, with the Swans going on to finish as minor premiers. Cameron kicked two goals in that game, however the Swans of today are not quite the same calibre.
Finally, Cameron heads to the MCG, and given the feat is still within range, Richmond face the task of halting the superstar from reaching the century mark. The last time these two sides faced off, Geelong won by 72 points, with Cameron kicking four goals from a whopping nine scoring shots, taking nine marks inside 50 however booting five behinds.
Seven, six, two and four - the last contests against the final four sides equate to just 19 goals, 12 goals short of the milestone 100.
However, Cameron did manage 26 scoring shots within those contests, and with a vastly different Swans side from then to now, and his Geelong teammates near certain to target their key man, Cameron is a serious chance of reaching the ultimate goal.
The last player to reach the 100-goal milestone was Lance Franklin in 2008, kicking four goals against the Blues in Round 22 to finish the home and away season with 102 majors in 22 games.
Since 2008, no player has reached the 90-goal mark, with Brendan Fevola (86 in 2009) and Josh Kennedy (80, 2016) the only two to reach 80 goals in a single home and away season.
