Giants' captain to miss crucial clash as MRO deals one-week suspension
GWS captain Toby Greene is set to miss the Giants' Thursday night clash with the Western Bulldogs as the club accepts a one-match ban for a strike on Isaac Heeney.
As Heeney was collected and taken to ground legally by GWS’ Sam Taylor, and in anticipation for the umpire’s decision on the tackle, Toby Greene intentionally dropped his forearm into Heeney’s vulnerable head.
The MRO graded the strike as intentional, low impact and high contact, resulting in a one-week suspension.
With the MRO’s decision, Greene will now miss the Giants’ September-shaping Thursday night clash with the Western Bulldogs.
The Western Bulldogs currently sit in ninth place, a game behind the Gold Coast Suns and two games behind the likes of Fremantle, GWS, Hawthorn and Geelong in the race for a spot in the finals.
Despite the Giants’ 44-point Derby win over the Swans on Friday night, they still remain vulnerable in sixth place, however a win over the Bulldogs this coming Thursday will likely cement their place amongst the top eight.
