Hodge's advice to Silvagni following Magpies offer
Australian Football Hall of Fame inductee Luke Hodge believes that it is a no-brainer for Carlton’s Jack Silvagni to make the move to Collingwood at the end of the season.
The Silvagni name has been synonymous with the Carlton Football Club, with Jack’s grandfather, Serge, and Dad, Stephen, both having played for the Navy Blue.
But according to recent reports from SEN’s Sam Edmund and the Herald Sun, Collingwood has made a play for the defender, which could see him depart.
It is believed by both sources that the Magpies’ offer to the 128-game player is bigger than the $700,000 per year over the next four seasons that Carlton has offered.
Being an unrestricted free agent, Silvagni will be able to walk without Collingwood having to negotiate a trade deal for the 27-year-old.
Speaking about whether Silvagni would leave, Dermott Brereton believes he has a lot to think about before being interjected by Hodge.
“It’s a fair bit to weigh up,” Brereton said on SEN’s Crunch Time.
Hodge, however, thinks the choice between the two is an easy one, despite the family connection to the club.

“No, it’s not,” he quipped.
“So, you’re telling me that you’ve got a club who is really struggling, has dropped away from a prelim final two years ago to players who look like they are playing for themself out on the field.
“They don’t know what is going on with the coach; they’ve got Wrighty (Graham Wright) coming in to make some big calls versus a club who is offering you more money and are sitting on top of the ladder (and) who’s going to play finals.
“I’m sitting here going, ‘At what stage…I understand loyalty is a massive thing, but (its the) opportunity versus to play in a premiership versus a club that’s stable at the moment'.
“You sit back and go; the only way he wouldn’t go is if Collingwood were playing less and Carlton bumped up the offer.
“It’s common sense.”
Silvangi has only played 13 games for this season and last featured for the Blues back in Round 16 due to a groin injury.
His availability remains as TBC according to the AFL’s Injury Update.
