Watson: The role Nat Fyfe can embrace at the Dockers
Fremantle’s selection risks paid off in Round 12, travelling to Queensland and taking care of the in-form Suns in tropical Gold Coast conditions.
Entering the contest, coach Justin Longmuir and the Dockers’ selection committee faced an array of criticism over their choices at the table, deciding to bring in club legend Nat Fyfe for his first game of the season while also re-introducing Sean Darcy despite the club’s difficulties when fielding both he and Luke Jackson.
Fyfe had only featured in a single WAFL game throughout 2025, playing in Round 2 before being removed from the contest with a hamstring complaint. Since then, the champion had failed to play in any senior competition.
With that being said, the 33-year-old was handed the substitute vest, entering the clash at three quarter time, with the side 13 points up ahead of the final exchange.
Putting his class on display, Fyfe racked up seven disposals, two marks, one clearance and a vital score involvement, remaining composed and clean in tough conditions to aid Fremantle in icing the result.
Diving into the contest, SEN’s Tim Watson believes the two-time Brownlow Medallist certainly has a role to play amongst the Fremantle side going forward.

“It was a great performance from Fremantle,” Watson told SEN Breakfast.
“Where they were at in that game… they might’ve rolled over in previous times.
“The other thing that was really fascinating was that Nat Fyfe was the sub.
“He comes on late-ish in the game. I thought they were going to sub out (Sean) Darcy, but they had an injury so that changed all that.
“(Fyfe) had I think seven touches in heavy, wet conditions.
“There is a way they can play him. I think he has (life in his career). I think they can play him as the inside mid against the big-bodied players.
“I think he’s already shown us that he’s prepared to play those types of roles.”
Fyfe and the Dockers will lap up the rest over the bye weekend before facing North Melbourne in Round 14.
