Trade talk: Key Magpie a real chance to head home this off-season

There’s a frustration among some senior premiership players around their contract statuses according to AFL Media’s Riley Beveridge.
With a handful of star players above the age of 30 and out of contract, Collingwood is refusing to offer some big names long-term deals given their age.
As things stand, Beveridge says the Magpies have offered Brody Mihocek and Jeremy Howe one-year deals which are yet to be signed, while he also says they’re not budging on their offer to Jamie Elliott despite the small forward being in All-Australian form.
With news of the club’s pursuit of free agent Jack Silvagni also coming to light in recent weeks, Beveridge believes the frustration is growing for some players including ruckman Darcy Cameron who is chasing an improved deal.
Given that Cameron came to the Magpies as a backup option and his considered underpaid, Beveridge believes West Coast are now right in the running to secure the West Australian should Collingwood not come to the party with a better offer.
“Darcy Cameron, his talks are still at a stalemate; he wants an extension,” Beveridge said on AFL’s Gettable.
“He’s been one of the most underpaid players in the comp for the best part of two to three years, but Collingwood hasn’t come to the table there.
“I think now, particularly with Darcy Cameron, West Coast is right in the mix for Darcy Cameron, and I think that’s a real possibility over the last couple of weeks.
“He’s seriously considering the prospect of joining the Eagles and asking for a trade to the Eagles at the end of 2025.
“I think that’s become a genuine possibility now.”
While Cameron is contracted until the end of next season, Beveridge thinks that there’s a real possibility he requests a move to the Eagles this off-season as he tries to secure a better financial return for the 2026 campaign and beyond.
“Cameron is still contracted for 2026,” Beveridge said.
“But given his payment structure at the moment I think he’s been looking for a higher salary for quite some time now.
“West Coast is the club that’s gone into him and I think he’s now a genuine possibility to join them at the end of the year.”
Cameron has played all 19 games for Collingwood this season, averaging 18.2 disposals, 5.2 marks, 4.4 clearances and 1.57 contested marks for the ladder-leaders.
