Calls for every Carlton player, bar one, to be put up for trade
Jordan Lewis believes every Carlton player, aside from one, should be up for trade if the club actually wants to succeed.
The four-time Hawthorn premiership player suggests the Blues must consider all avenues in a bid to improve the quality of their playing list which has been criticised in recent weeks.
Lewis, who was at the Hawks when Lance Franklin left, has implored the Blues to make some massive changes which includes star players like Patrick Cripps, Charlie Curnow and Harry McKay.

“Is it too big of a conversation to have now, when you look at the players on your list that have currency, (and) entertain the idea to get them out the door and trade in some draft picks?” Lewis floated on Fox Footy’s On The Couch.
“You’ve got to take the emotion out of it. I’m talking Cripps, Curnow, McKay.
“The best player in the league was traded out of Hawthorn. Lance Franklin left Hawthorn to go to Sydney, and everything was ok. I just don’t think you want to have these conversations in three years’ time, when the player that you could’ve traded out has lost their currency.
“If you want to be a mediocre side, you’re not going to make tough decisions.”
Lewis says last year’s top draft pick, Jagga Smith, should be the only Blue that is off the trade table.
“I honestly think everyone should be up for discussion, other than probably Jagga Smith, who we haven’t seen (due to injury),” Lewis added.
“You’re hearing stuff externally, (and) now you’re looking at their list and the type of players they’ve got on that list.
“They were the oldest Carlton side that they fielded on the weekend since 1944, so it ain’t a young list.”
It’s a risky strategy, but one that Lewis believes can help Carlton shake off the mediocrity that has plagued them for so long.
SEN’s Kane Cornes cannot see Carlton getting rid of a warrior such as two-time Brownlow Medallist and club captain Cripps.
“I wouldn’t trade Cripps,” Cornes said on SEN Breakfast.
“That guy has carried the club on his shoulders for such a long period of time. I thought he was done four years ago.
“I think it would be disgraceful if Carlton put the dual Brownlow Medallist, the captain of the club, the one that has put his head over the footy for 12-13 years and carried that club up for trade. That would be a disgrace.
“Shut the doors if you’re going to trade Patrick Cripps. The guy had 45 Brownlow votes last year, and then we’re going to trade him the next year?”
Two-time Coleman Medallist Curnow is also off the table, according to Cornes.
“I’d be pretty hesitant to trade Charlie Curnow,” Cornes added.
“How many players in the game are capable of kicking 70 goals? There’s probably four.
“I would not be trading Curnow and Cripps. I think everyone else would probably be fair.”
However, Cornes does see a fair bit of trade currency in midfielder Sam Walsh.
“The logical one is Walsh,” he continued.
“That would offend some Carlton fans, for similar reasons because he’s been such a loyal player.
“The reason I say Walsh is because he’s got a shorter contract, he’s easier to move and I think the currency he has is significant.
“You would get a top 10 pick for him. You might get two not-as-lucrative first-round picks, so maybe one inside the top 10 and a later one, with swaps back and forth.
“There’s a serious market for him.”
He concluded: “They’re going to have to do something because they’ve given away their first pick (this year).
“There’s not a whole lot of salary cap room, so they’re going to have get quite creative.
“But I think to even consider trading Patrick Cripps is a bit offensive.”
