Lynch handed extensive ban for strike on Adelaide defender
Richmond forward Tom Lynch has landed the biggest ban of 2025, with the Tribunal handing down a five-match ban for his swinging arm on Adelaide defender Jordan Butts.
The Tigers veteran lashed out with a haymaker strike to the head of Crows defender Jordon Butts during the second quarter at the MCG.
The strike was initially graded as intentional conduct, high contact and severe impact, with the forward being sent directly to the Tribunal for a minimum four-week ban.
After lengthy deliberation with the Tribunal on Tuesday afternoon, Lynch’s attempted hit was found to have potential to cause concussion - deemed a serious injury – forming intent to strike Butts off the play.
Finding that a significant ban was warranted, the Tribunal handed Lynch a five-game suspension, meaning the Tiger will not play until Round 22.
