The best bets for Saturday racing from the Trackside team!
Cam Luke
CAULFIELD
Race 4 | 13. Supernima
Barriers win races and he is drawn better than Pure Alpha and Hughes who both need luck but there is speed so they might get it! He was great last start chasing Proved and with the speed I think he will land perfectly. In better fettle this time for the 1400m and being a bigger bloke. I think outside of horses is better than inside as he was when tucked away at Flemington in cup week.
Race 9 | 8. Suparazi
This is easier than most races he has been in lately. Was great in the Newmarket and now gets to the 1400m. Horses he has finished behind are both favs for G1’s in Sydney. His only time here over 1400m only Jimmysstar beat him. Trialled up really well since first up and as long as Declan Bates gets a backside without going back to last he will get it done!!
RANDWICK
Race 1 | 1. North England
Ran pretty well in the Slipper considering missed a vital run leading in which left him a little soft late. Back to the 1100m won’t hurt and he will zoom along in front or OSL if King Of Pop wants to use the gate advantage. Tim Clark will rate him perfectly and I think he will be at his best here and win.
Race 8 | 1. Another Wil (each-way)
Going to need some luck from the gate but his form is great. Speed will be on early so hoping Jamie Melham can slide in with cover. Doncaster can be rough with pressure and he handles all those things and still hits the line. Fingers crossed he has some luck early and he will be right there in the straight. His stablemate Gringotts in career form will have run of the race and be hard to beat but I’ll be going wide in the quaddie!
Race 9 | 18. Aeliana
As Gai Waterhouse once said ‘The Filly’. Is drawn to get the perfect run not too different than last start when she nearly ran down Broadsiding. The 2400m seems perfect based on that run. Jockey is airborne and will be able to watch Willydoit all the way! No major speed in the race so Willydoit might end up leading like he did in NZ and will be in it for a long, long way. They are the only two I can see winning the race although Firm Agreement was huge on Tuesday with no luck so if he backs up he will be running on well but it’s the girl for me!
Race 10 | 1. Clean Energy
Huge win at Moonee Valley coming from third last around then when only leaders won. Beat Lady Shenandoah last prep and she is a brilliant filly. Will squeeze forward and be closer I’d imagine as the speed and pressure is a little lower than it was last start. Lilac back to the 1200m is a plus after chasing home star fillies the last two and I think she’ll chase another home today.
David Taggart
CAULFIELD
Race 1 | 3. Facilitate
Facilitate just missed out last start and he gets the blinkers on for the first time. Hopefully he can jump on the bunny and lead all the way at a handy price.
Race 2 | 13. Ironton
Hasn’t raced for over a year but has ability. Beat a handy one debut then had enough second start and never disgraced himself. Must of went a miss after his first trial next prep which was good against Coastwatch. Trialled up well for this and can win.
Race 5 | 2. Statuario
Beat a few of these easily last start and was only beaten two behind Shanwah who can go close in the Derby today.
RANDWICK
Race 2 | 9. Polymnia
Big price discrepancy here with No.1 Dominetta who draws the outside gate and first go at the trip, will lead and Inevitable Truth who beat her home last start in the G3 at Kembla coming from behind her. Finally put it all together last start to bolt in her maiden when stepping up in trip. She has 2000m written all over her and there should be pace on here which will suit her. She’ll be getting home hard.
Race 3 | 3. Alalcance
Bolted the G3 Manion Cup last start over 2400m and there is no reason she won’t run out a strong 2600m. Draws soft, should jump lead and win especially if we strike a good track.
Race 4 | 1. Evaporate
Was stiff not to win last start over in NZ and his form before that is first class especially when he took on a class field in the Futurity again having no luck. Only danger is the favourite of Hawkes (Swiftfalcon).
