Matt Reid’s best bets for Friday racing at Launceston (04/04)

Friday night, thoroughbred racing is in Launceston for the penultimate meeting of the night season.
It’s the first of two meetings for the weekend, with Hobart in action on Sunday.
The rail is +4m, a shift from +2m for the program a week ago. Fine weather is forecast.
Best bet
Race 3 – 3. Bunker Jako
On a night I found hard to declare a best bet, I’ve landed on the debutant Bunker Jako in the third. Having first trialled back in November, connections have clearly been patient with the 3YO, bypassing the Summer Festival and giving him four trials before he faces the starter. His recent work impressed me, and he doesn’t strike the strongest kick-off point, particularly for a Tasbred bonus race.

Race 7 – 5. Designer Dreamer
Trainer Matthew Brown has campaigned six starters in Tassie this season, for three wins and two placings. Designer Dreamer is part of his small team down south and looks ready to win at his third run in the state after two runs where he hit the line well in leader-dominated contests. There’s a distinct lack of speed in this race on paper, so he’ll need a heady ride from Chloe Wells, but I think if he gets it, he’ll be right in the finish.

Race 4 – 10. Bounty Bay
Bounty Bay has her first start for Dylan Clark, having moved from the Imogen Miller stable. She’s been costly at times for punters; six times in Tassie, she’s started less than $5, but her only career win came in Victoria. She did enough in her trial to suggest she can run a forward race first-up, and this is the type of 0-60 where I’d prefer to go value hunting as these horses certainly don’t win out of turn.
