Who is the best midfielder in the AFL?
We asked footy fans all around the country, via the SEN AFL Fan Survey, to tell us who they believe to be the league’s elite prime mover.
We provided the names of 14 star midfielders and there were four who stood out above the rest according to you.
Sitting at the top of the charts is Western Bulldogs captain Marcus Bontempelli who has received over 44 per cent of votes.
The Dogs superstar is universally loved and that shines through in the results from this survey.
Behind him is young superstar and reigning AFL MVP from Collingwood Nick Daicos iwth 21.4 per cent. The two-time Brownlow runner-up finished third in 2024 and appears Bontempelli's heir apparent in this race.
Next is Brownlow winner Matt Rowell, who enjoyed a real breakout 2025 season under Damien Hardwick at 10.3 per cent.
Fourth is Port Adelaide's Zak Butters on 7 per cent. Patrick Cripps and Lachie Neale both finished with more than 10 per cent of the vote in 2024, but dropped significantly in 2025.
