Journeyman Hawk announces retirement

After 14 seasons in the AFL, Hawthorn’s Sam Frost has announced his retirement.
The defender who played three clubs initially started life with the Giants, having been selected with Pick 1 in the 2011 Rookie Draft.
From there, he played in their inaugural season, but it would take until 2014 for the 32-year-old to consistently break into the first team in the back line, managing to play 16 of his 21 games with the club that season.
Later that same year, Frost was traded, along with Picks 40 and 53, to the Demons for Pick 23 in the 2014 Draft. He then proceeded to play 70 games for the side over five seasons, which included their finals run in 2018.
But he would play the majority of his career with the Hawks after being traded in 2019.
During six seasons with the club, he played 94 games in brown and gold, having been a constant feature of their backline until this year, when he only played their opening two games. Following that, he was delisted.
Frost had previously floated the idea of trying to continue his career with a fourth AFL club, having floated the possibility of travelling interstate for any opportunity.
But he has decided against that.
Speaking with AFL.com.au's Josh Gabelich, Frost thanked all three clubs that he had played for, with a particular focus on the Hawks.
"I'd like to thank the Greater Western Sydney Football Club, the Melbourne Football Club and the Hawthorn Football Club for affording me the opportunity to live out a childhood dream of playing AFL football," he said.
"In particular, I'd like to thank the Hawks for helping me to become a teammate, partner and father I can be proud of as I finish my career.
"After 14 years and 185 games, I've had incredible highs and shattering lows and will retire with no regrets, only gratitude for the experiences I have had and the people who have helped shape them. I look forward to discovering what's next for my family and I."
