BALLARAT (SYNTHETIC)
Race 3 | 11. Shay's Way
Up to the 1500m is a big tick and the gate won’t be a major issue as John Allen can stride over and either lead or sit OSL Triple Oh. She had a long break before last run so fitness certainly will be helped for today. Handled the Syntho fine and expect her to be very hard to beat. It helps the other fancy is drawn outside her and the step from 12-15 might again see her go back and have to run down SW which is why I’m with the leader.
NEWCASTLE
Race 4 | 14. Skirmish
Out back and wide on debut and hit line OK and the rise 1100-1400m will suit as will a better run in transit. Bumped a couple of times and she will improve from the experience. Bit more space on Newcastle will also advantage her! Mo major spoil at $2.50 but expect her improvement to get her home here against the older horses.
Race 7 | 12. Iceman (each-way)
I’ve gone wide in the quad but this bloke is always in tough races and crediting the eye. 1400m I feel is the sweet spot and is the distance of his only win. He will go back anyway so gate isn’t a concern and is well weighted. Toe into the ground no concern and will be flashing home as always. The speed (Cold Brew/Smoke On The Water) will ensure he can rattle late No major bet but a little flutter each way at $13 and $3.50 the place is well worth it!
Race 8 | 4. Expido
Was very impressive first up and expect further fitness and improvement up to the 1100m here. Will have run of the race sitting right on back of the speed which I assume will be the fav Oakfield Neptune. Expido can stalk and go bang just like last start. Seems a progressive horse and again in a hugely winning race I think the $3.90 is overs!!
WARREN
Race 3 | 6. Miss Rapide
Barriers win races so I am a little nervous here as she is drawn poorly but was good on debut. She is drawn almost as bad but the speed inside her might not be as hot and hoping can get a smidge of luck. I expect her to improve up to the 1000m from 800m and she was really good considering she was 4 wide the entire on debut. The fav Miss Karis beat her home but much better run albeit she is drawn better again here. Don’t go crazy but if luck falls Miss Rapide’s way the $6.50 is a nice play.
Race 7 | 1. Foxwell
Will find this easier than last start and can sit right behind the speed (Avalicious) and stalk. Up to the 1400m is a big tick as is the 3kg claim meaning he carries an ok weight. Toe into the ground not a concern and with the residual fitness after a decent prep (10 weeks between previous run) I think helps him today. Got a couple in he quaddie to finish a tough day but I’ve had a few shackles on this bloke!
Campbell Brown
BALLARAT (SYNTHETIC)
Race 3 | 11. Shay's Way
Good return last start when very close to winning. Will push forward from the wide gate to sit outside leader and be finishing strongly. Step up slightly in trip second up suits $3.30.
NEWCASTLE
Race 3 | 6. The Stars
Four runs last prep in Jan/Feb were good. Given time, trialled well leading into today, drawn perfectly, will lead and finds a very weak midweek maiden. $1.70.
WARREN
Race 4 | 5. Jasper's Way
Small field with only seven runners. Close second last start and if can replicate will be to strong. Can camp just behind speed from barrier 1. Handles wet conditions $2.60.
CAIRNS
Race 4 | 2. Arctic Bear
Only missed placings once in last six including three wins. Horse makes own luck in front and is always brave. Apprentice jockey can lead them up today under own steam and give a kick. $5.50.
