We love getting amongst it with our fellow sports fans - there's just something about live sport that has a hold on us, but it needs the right venue to give it the right stage to thrive as an experience to be remembered.
Today, the Sport Nation crew cast their votes for a new addition to our annual summer content as we pick the best places across the country to be a spectator.
With the final results tallied, below are our top five stadiums or grounds across Aotearoa as 2026 begins.
5. Hagley Oval, Christchurch
Logan Swinkels, digital lead: "Five days of Test cricket here (when you get it) can be absolute bliss. Taking a stroll from the CBD through Hagley Park en route to the Hadlee Pavilion is a great way to start your morning.
"Easily my second favourite cricketing ground in the country."
Stephen Foote, digital producer: "A picturesque postage stamp perfectly suited to Test cricket. Not a bad seat in the house.
"Embankments are all you ever need for cricket. Take note, Auckland City Council."

4. Eden Park, Auckland
Henry Lee, Millsy & Guy producer: "You can't beat a full house at Eden Park for an All Blacks Test."
Jacob Scott, Afternoons producer: "It has history on its side. But might not be the 'National Stadium' for too much longer."
Riccardo Ball, Mornings co-host: "Magical place for All Black Tests against the Wallabies, Poms and Scots, but for the Blues since the early 2000s, it's too big to do the job you want it too."

3. Forsyth Barr Stadium, Dunedin
Mark Stafford, Afternoons host: "Not only the atmosphere created, but the people, The Zoo, and it's typically an open and flowing game. They just need to sort their burgers."
Sam Ackerman, Scotty & Izzy producer: "Such a great place to watch footy, under a roof – now there’s an idea!"

2. Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui
Logan Swinkels, digital lead: "Call it hometown bias but I love what they’ve done with Bay Oval. It’s an awesome spot to watch the Blackcaps or White Ferns, plus there’s plenty of space for the kids to have their own cricket games happening.
"Beyond the TV tower there’s a second oval with food trucks and coffee carts, plus park benches to enjoy your food at and watch the match on the provided big screen so you don’t miss anything. Just watch out for the overly aggressive sea gulls!
"My only gripe with Bay Oval is getting out when it’s packed - but that’s a wider Tauranga issue, hopefully Mayor Mahe has a solution."
Sam Ackerman, Scotty & Izzy producer: "Nothing beats it when the sun is shining and the Blackcaps are scoring."

1. Go Media Stadium Mt Smart, Auckland
Riccardo Ball, Mornings co-host: "If I'm picking one ground that for me has everything you need to be on top of the action, relatively easy access and an amazing atmosphere, it's Go Media Stadium Mt Smart.
"The Warriors, Auckland FC, the Kiwis have all had that place humming of late."
Jacob Scott, Afternoons producer: "Go Media Stadium has been the battle ground for so many classic sporting moments in the past half-decade."
Sam Ackerman, Scotty & Izzy producer: "Nowhere gets better fan engagement."
Logan Swinkels, digital lead: "Whether it’s the NZ Warriors or Auckland FC, the fun and atmosphere is there because fans of all ages are well catered to in terms of food and entertainment outside of what’s happening on the pitch. Our commentary team might have some of the best seats in the ground, but there really is no bad seat.
"While the likes of Eden Park and Sky Stadium offer up bland options - like the saddest $15 cheeseburger I’ve ever had - at Mount Smart, the array of food trucks gives plenty of choice. I just happen to salivate over the pork belly sandwiches."

Honourable mentions:
Basin Reserve, Wellington: "You had me at Pohutukawa" - Sam Ackerman.
Seddon Park, Hamilton: "Great viewing 360 degrees, every seat has a great view. Always, always a great playing surface. The city right on your doorstep for your aftermatch celebrations" - Mark Stafford.
Queenstown Ice Arena, Queenstown: "You forget you’re in New Zealand when you’re here. I feel like I’ve been transported back to a cozy hockey arena in Ontario, Canada - here the staff are warm and friendly as are all the locals. The mulled wine is good too!
"I’ve been privileged to watch, film, commentate and present many national league and international games here and it’ll always hold a special place in my heart" - Logan Swinkels.
