Starc in demolition mode against woeful Windies
Mitchell Starc has torn through the West Indies top order to put Australia in a strong position early on Day 3 of the third Test against the West Indies in Kingston.
The left arm quick, celebrating his 100th Test, took a stunning 5/6 including the first five wickets in 15 deliveries as the tourists finished the first session at 6/22.
Chasing 204 for an unlikely victory up against the pink Dukes ball and the premier Aussie quicks, the West Indies faltered badly.
Starc, who took his 400th Test wicket, removed John Campbell (0), Mikyle Louis (4), Kevlon Anderson (0), Brandon King (0) and Shai Hope (2), while Josh Hazlewood also chimed in by dismissing captain Roston Chase (0).
The six wickets lost by the Windies came after the Aussies lost four of their own earlier in the first session of a crazy third day.
SEN Cricket’s Adam White tried to make sense of it all.
“We’re still trying to get our head around what we’ve just seen,” he said on SEN Breakfast.
“We had a situation where we had Starc on a hat-trick, Starc getting this 400th wicket, Starc taking the fastest five-wicket haul in Test cricket history. He had 5/2 at one point, and we were on track to have the lowest Test score in the history of Test cricket.
“It all happened so fast, it was amazing.”
