With Tanah Boyd sidelined, Luke Metcalf could take the Warriors reins in the remainder of the season, although the ink has set on his new Dragons contract.
“Luke will play a big part for us the rest of this year and I think it's important to point out he's determined to do that," assistant coach Richie Agar told Sport Nation’s Millsy & Guy on Thursday.
“He's not sulking around kicking stones, he knows he's got a part to play, he's been supporting everyone and when he gets back in and he's good to go it'll be business as usual.”
Due to departing the club at the end of 2026, he has made recent trips across the ditch to secure the contract and has therefore had a lack of time on the field.
“Luke's obviously signed for another club for next season, but in and around that, the deal's got to get done, it's got to get registered, medicals have got to happen and all that.”

"Today's been the first day he's been able to get reps in, he's off the back of an ACL and he did his hamstring and he hasn't done football for the best part of three to four weeks.
“It wouldn't be fair. It would be negligent on our part to include Luke in our team this week.”
But now that the deal is signed and secured, Metcalf is committed to getting himself in the best possible shape to play - with Agar signalling he could have the No. 7 on his back very soon.
Metcalf will be fit in time take over from Tanah Boyd who has steered the Warriors toward success in 2026, with Te Maire Martin stepping off the bench in the interim.
Boyd went down with an ACL injury in the 7th minute of the Broncos Magic Round clash last weekend - ruling him out for the remainder of the season.

Agar noted this is the second time a Warriors halfback has gone down with the injury at Suncorp within 12 months, the first being Luke Metcalf in June 2025.
He described the history repeating itself as a sickening occasion and a blow for the entire team.
He said “he's (Boyd) been amazing this week, he's been really brave and sort of fighting back the tears and you can only imagine guys what's going through his head.

“He's had to be so patient and wait so long and fought so hard to get his opportunity in the team, really grabbed it with both hands this year and we were in such a good run of form and then that happens.
“So he's got a lot of support around him and he's very determined that he's going to contribute in any way he can this year for us and see it through and get back on the field as soon as possible.”
