The Blackcaps have suffered another injury blow, with Ish Sodhi expected to miss a significant amount of time with a serious knee injury.
The Canterbury legspinner posted on Instagram over the weekend lying in a bed with crutches in the background, and the caption “Had higher hopes for this season. Alas, time to control what I can” followed by a heartbreak emoji.
Coach Rob Walter said Sodhi suffered a “high-grade ACL injury” during a warm-up, but the extent is still to be determined.

“It's trying to understand what his recovery period might look like, and that's not clear just yet. But obviously when it comes to those types of injuries, it could be a significant delay or time in recovery, so obviously we're hoping for the best with Ish.
“I know he'd worked incredibly hard in this pre-season to get ready for the season and push his case. As always, he's super hungry to represent his country and get back on the park, so holding thumbs for the best outcome there.”
In better news, Walter emphasised they aren’t “too fazed about the Test matches” after Rachin Ravindra was ruled out of the ODI series.

The Wellingtonian suffered a shoulder injury in September during a promotional shoot and missed the 3-2 T20I series defeat.
“Things are actually looking pretty good, just a little bit behind where we hoped he’d be.” Walter said.
“I've thrown to him and his batting is absolutely fine. So, it was more about understanding what is likely to come your way in ODI cricket - the intensity and the diving around that comes with it. And you're expected to do that if you're going to do it properly. And so we didn't really want to expose him to that too early, but he's still on track.”
Walter added that they’ll be cautious with Matt Henry ahead of the ODI series, as he returns to the group after suffering a low-grade quadricep tear during game two the T20I series.

The Canterbury paceman has been listed as being “assessed on his readiness to play” for the ODIs, with Matt Fisher, who was initially selected for ODIs 4 and 5, to remain with the squad for the full series as an additional bowling option.
Walter said the injury “wasn't severe and significant.
“But we're just wary of throwing him back into a competitive international game too quickly, and then we sort of stay in that cycle.
“It's allowing him to actually have some repeat exposures to some high-intensity work. And then be really happy that he's ready to go.
"Because again, he's such an integral part of our bowling lineup that rushing him early for one ODI at the start potentially, and what it might do if it's too early to the test matches, especially with what's in front of us. So just trying to be smart with when we bring him back in.”
