Simon Culhane: Inside the All Blacks’ greatest South African triumph and why history can repeat

The All Blacks' last series triumph in South Africa remains one of New Zealand rugby's greatest achievements, and one of the men who helped make it happen believes Dave Rennie's side has what it takes to emulate the class of 1996.
Speaking on Sport Nation's Millsy & Guy, former All Blacks first-five Simon Culhane reflected on the physical and mental demands of touring South Africa, describing it as "a hell of a tough country to play against" where "you never feel comfortable" against the Springboks.
Having experienced the intensity of the 1996 tour first-hand, Culhane understands the size of the task facing Robertson's squad — but he believes the current All Blacks are building towards something special.

Despite the challenge awaiting Rennie's side, Culhane likes what he has seen from the All Blacks under the new coach.
"I think the boys are on their way up," Culhane said.
"I think they've got a definite opportunity and I'm expecting, or predicting, that they'll go pretty well actually."
