‘My biggest goal of the year’: Fox reflects on Presidents Cup call-up

For Kiwi golfer Ryan Fox, playing in his first Presidents Cup was an experience that surpassed all his expectations, even as the International Team fell just short.
The Internationals led 10.5-7.5 heading into the Sunday singles (Monday NZ time) at Medinah, but the United States mounted a comeback to win 17-13. Fox earned points in the team sessions before losing his singles match to Xander Schauffele.
“It was incredible,” Fox told Sport Nation's Scotty & Izzy.
“I think it was my biggest goal of the year to be a part of it and to get there was great, and then the team environment was better than I could have ever expected.”

That atmosphere resonated with Fox, who grew up playing team sports.
“Being a part of a team was always massive for our family,” he explained.
“A few of the guys said it was the best environment they'd been in as part of the team.”
The International Team made a strong start, with Fox recalling how close they came to turning their advantage into a historic victory.
“Obviously, the first three days, we couldn't have probably wished for any better, especially Friday, and then Sunday didn't quite work out how we wanted to, but even with an hour left we still had a good chance.
“There was a couple of really tight matches that went their way and if they had gone the other way, I probably would have had a worse hangover on Monday than I did.”

Fox said the Internationals had made the Americans work for the win, and that U.S. captain Brandt Snedeker told him the challenge had taken its toll.
“I think we scared them a little bit. I did talk to Brandt Snedeker afterwards and he said we gave him a lot of sleepless nights last week.”
Despite the narrow loss, Fox is already looking ahead to another chance with the team as the Presidents Cup heads to Melbourne's Kingston Heath Golf Club in 2028.
