NZ Cricket has the right man for the job in Geoff Allott, according to former Blackcaps allrounder Scott Styris.
On Tuesday, cricket's national governing body confirmed Allott has been appointed its new CEO, effective July 1st.
Speaking with Ian Smith on Sport Nation Mornings, Styris gave his former teammate a ringing endorsement, singling out the newcomer's experience as an international cricket as a key selling point.
"I think he will be a great appointee for that position," said Styris.
"He's certainly done his time, and he knows the game inside and out.
"At this juncture, I think thinking like a player or from a player's perspective is probably a positive and it's one that I think he will be able to use to his advantage."

Styris - a veteran of 248 internationals for New Zealand across all formats - believes Allott's position as a strong advocate for the imminent new NZ20 domestic league also significantly strengthened his candidacy.
Former CEO Scott Weenink's opposition to the new franchise competition is understood to have been one of the primary factors in his parting ways with NZC.
"You need someone who is behind it," he noted.
"Whilst I thought Scott Weenink was more than capable for the job, if your views don't align with where the direction of the game is heading, then I think you're on a hiding to nothing.
"The fact that Geoff is behind and the decision they've made to go ahead with that, I think it's a good appointment."
