From Claret Jug to porridge bibs: Fox returns to dad life

Ryan Fox is back in New Zealand, back on dad duty, and still trying to make sense of life as a major champion.
A week after winning The Open, Fox joined Sport Nation’s Scotty & Izzy and summed up the chaos in the most normal way possible.
“I’m actually at the moment trying to find a bib for my daughter to eat porridge and not spill everywhere, so back to dad life,” Fox said.
“It’s been surreal. I still probably don’t quite have words to describe everything that’s happened.”
Since lifting the Claret Jug, Fox has been pulled from celebration to media call to family catch-up, with the scale of the moment still sinking in.
“Sunday’s life changing and I’ve still got to figure out what that means,” he said.
“I think I did like 15 hours of media in the two to three days after it finished.”
Fox said the first emotion after the winning putt dropped was disbelief.
“I don’t know what to do after that putt goes in,” he said.
“Those first few days, any time I got a little bit of time to myself or just me and my wife, we’d look at each other and basically just go, what’s going on? This is crazy.”

The win has brought tears from many around him, even if Fox has processed it differently.
“I feel like I might be the only one that hasn’t cried about it, weirdly,” he said.
“It obviously means a lot to me, but it doesn’t make me cry. It makes me proud.”
He expects the reality to hit again when he returns to tour, where the tee times, attention and expectations will all look different.
“I’m all of a sudden going to end up in marquee groups,” Fox said.
“I’m just expecting that first playoff event to see my tee time with Scottie Scheffler. That’s going to take a little while to get used to.”
Still, some things remain wonderfully Kiwi: family, fishing, and a pie that has suddenly become famous.
“I didn’t have any ulterior motive or anything, I just liked the pie,” Fox said.
“The fact that they’ve named it after me now is pretty damn cool.”
