Champion shearer Jack Fagan is taking strong form into a busy Northern Hemisphere campaign, with up-coming tests against Scotland, England and Wales ahead of a final stop in France.
Fagan has recently been in the United States, where he competed in Roseburg, Oregon, winning the event, following a major domestic milestone of taking out the New Zealand Shearing Championship in April.
He became the first King Country local in 16 years to win the title on the 40th anniversary of the event.
Speaking to Erin Speedy from The Rural Roundup while in Italy and on his way to England for the next leg of his international tour, Fagan said “I want to get in there to win. That’s the main objective.”
Fagan will be in Scotland next weekend for New Zealand’s first unofficial test against the Scottish team.
“Hemi Braddick, my other teammate, can’t make it over for this first test, so we’re actually going to take the best Kiwi on the day, who will join me in the New Zealand team for a test against Scotland,” he said.
“Then we’ll head down to the Great Yorkshire Show in early July for the test against the English.”
From there, Fagan will turn his attention to Wales, where the New Zealand team faces a demanding run of four tests.
"We've got four tests against the Welsh. We are the first test at a new competition down in mid Wales called Eppend.
“It’s at a big farm, and it’ll be the first-ever test on full-wool ewes against the Welsh.”

Fagan said the Welsh leg would be one of the toughest parts of the tour, with the home side known for fronting up strong in front of home crowds.
“The Welsh in their home environment, they’re absolutely incredible. They just really rise to the occasion,” he said.
“That atmosphere at the Royal Welsh and Corwen would be as good as a rugby match at Twickenham or Eden Park. It’s just incredible.”
Fagan is going to further lengthen his trip so he can attend the French Open Sharing Championships.
