'Cloned the Panthers': Why Voss believes Dogs are the real deal
SEN’s Andrew Voss has declared the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs as genuine Premiership contenders in 2025.
With a gritty 20-0 win over the Newcastle Knights on Sunday night, the Bulldogs remain the only undefeated team this season and sit atop the NRL ladder heading into their Round 6 bye.
Voss believes the Bulldogs have overtaken Manly and Cronulla as the next team to rival the Penrith Panthers and Melbourne Storm for the 2025 title.
“We now have a base to work from to sort out who are the real contenders and who are the pretenders,” Voss said on SEN 1170 Breakfast.
“What I’ve seen from Canterbury so far, they’ve nudged the likes of Cronulla and Manly out of the way.
“Canterbury is now a genuine Premiership chance in my opinion. I’ve seen enough. They are a genuine contender to win the competition.
“Congratulations Canterbury because you have successfully cloned the Penrith Panthers.
“You’ve also added the DNA of the Bulldogs of the 1980’s. You’ve put a dose of that in there to make your own brand.
“The next man up philosophy works. Their defence works. They’ve had players out and they just move on.
“The development of players like Bailey Hayward, Jack Todd and Harry Hayes (has been elite.)
“There have been some hard times and now on the other side of it, they are bearing fruit.
“I think Canterbury can win this competition.”
The Bulldogs have the bye in Round 6 before the annual Good Friday clash against the South Sydney Rabbitohs at Accor Stadium on April 18.
