Most runs, most wickets and more: Steve O’Keefe’s BBL|15 predictions

Former Australian spinner Steve O’Keefe has made his big predictions ahead of the BBL|15 season.

O’Keefe played 103 Big Bash games for the Sixers, from the club’s foundation all the way until the BBL|13 season, where he retired two years ago.

Having played so much Big Bash cricket, O’Keefe has an intimate knowledge of the players and teams involved.

With that in mind, he’s looked into his crystal ball and picked his top run-scorer, top wicket taker and premier for the upcoming season, which begins on Sunday when the Scorchers host the Sixers in Perth.

MOST RUNS

Chris Lynn (Adelaide Strikers)

“It’s tricky for me to not just pick Sixers players,” O’Keefe said on Sportsday NSW.

“But do you know what, I’ve spent a bit of time with this guy overseas, and he’s getting a bit older and wiser with experience.

“So I’m going to go with Chris Lynn, this is a guy who’s made himself available to play the whole Big Bash.

“He gets to play at the Adelaide Oval, where the average score is higher than everywhere else; he gets to face the new ball, and he’s improved against spin, particularly leg spin.

“So, I’m tipping him to get the most runs.”

MOST WICKETS

Tanveer Sangha (Sydney Thunder)

“Most wickets, it’s hard to steer past some Sixers players, but I will, I’m going with Tanveer Sangha for the Sydney Thunder, the leg spinner.

“The Thunder have decided that their home ground is going to be predominantly spin-based; they’re going to slow it up.

“I think everyone thought T20 cricket would be the death of spin bowling, but it’s the opposite… when you need 12 an over, taking down a leg-spinner is very hard to do.

“So I’ve got Tanveer.”

BBL WINNERS

Sydney Sixers

“I’m going to say it’s a Hurricanes v Sixers Grand Final at the SCG, and I think the Sixers will get it done.

“But I’m giving a special note to the Heat and the Thunder, who I also think will have special seasons as well.”
