Day 1 ended with the Blackcaps at the crease for nine overs after successfully bowling out the West Indies during the third session.
Tom Latham and Devon Conway took the crease late in the session, facing the attack from Kemar Roach and Jayden Seales. Seales’ first ball prompted a big appeal against Conway, but the review was wisely not used.
Conway quickly got on the board, scoring five runs off the next two deliveries, and survived a near spectacular caught-and-bowled attempt at the end of the over.
The opener continued his aggressive approach, striking three quick boundaries off Roach and Seales to set the tone for the innings.
At stumps, the Blackcaps are 24 without loss, with Conway (16 no) and Latham on (7 no). The pair will resume their innings tomorrow at 11am NZ Time.

Blackcaps dominate third session as West Indies bowled out
The Blackcaps continued their strong bowling display, dismissing the West Indies for 205 and taking full control of the innings.
Glenn Phillips opened the third session with a tidy maiden, while Blair Tickner carried on his excellent form. Tickner struck in the 56th over, uprooting captain Roston Chase’s leg stump for 29, bringing debutant Tevin Imlach to the crease.
Michael Rae claimed his second Test wicket, taking the edge of Justin Greaves, with Mitchell Hay taking his first dismissal behind the stumps, a memorable debut moment. Rae then trapped Kemar Roach LBW for a duck after a successful review, taking his tally to three wickets.
The Blackcaps’ review luck ran out soon after, with Tom Latham’s second review unsuccessful. Tickner nearly added to Rae’s haul but was denied by a high shot from Imlach.
In a worrying moment, Tickner injured his shoulder while attempting a boundary save and was stretchered off, finishing with 4-32 on a brilliant return.
Glenn Phillips struck again in the 69th over, substitute fielder Kristian Clarke made a sharp direct-hit run out, and Jacob Duffy wrapped up the innings by dismissing Ojay Shields for a duck, as the West Indies were bowled out for 205.
The Blackcaps will get a short stint at the crease to start their innings in a commanding position after an impressive bowling performance.
West Indies lose Hope as Rae and Tickner make their mark
The Canterbury duo of Zak Foulkes and Michael Rae opened the attack for New Zealand in the second innings, and it didn’t take long for Rae to make an impact.
In just the second over after the break, the debutant claimed his first Test wicket, dismissing Campbell for 44, with a sharp catch from Daryl Mitchell in the slips - a memorable moment for the newcomer.
Captain Roston Chase soon joined the crease and got off the mark with his 8th ball, bringing up the West Indies’ 100 in the 31st over.
By the drinks break, the visitors were 131-3, with Shai Hope unbeaten on 34, having built a steady innings since lunch.
Chase and Hope put together a 50-run partnership by the 44th over, but Glenn Phillips’ introduction to the attack couldn’t prevent Blair Tickner from breaking through just two overs later.
The short ball finally did the trick, and Hope was caught on 48 by Williamson in the slips, marking Tickner’s third wicket of the match.
Justin Greaves joined Chase at the crease, hoping to replicate his previous heroics in Christchurch. At tea, the West Indies are 175-4, with Chase (29 no) and Greaves (10 no), ready to continue after the break.

Tickner strikes early as West Indies build solid start
John Campbell opened for the West Indies, joined by debutant Brandon King, replacing Tagenarine Chanderpaul, who picked up a side strain yesterday.
The first boundary came in the second over, with King driving Zak Foulkes to the offside.
A near run-out in the fifth over saw Campbell and King miscommunicate, with Blair Tickner hitting the stumps directly, but Campbell made his ground just in time.
Shortly after, Campbell edged a big drive - Tom Latham’s diving attempt failed to hold the catch, keeping the opener alive.
Michael Rae made his Test debut in the 14th over, only to see King smash his first six immediately after pulling a four off a similar delivery, taking the West Indies to 50.
Tickner struck in his second over, trapping King LBW for 33 from 55 balls after a successful review.
Tickner added another wicket in the 19th over, dismissing Kavem Hodge for a duck, leaving the West Indies 66-2.
Shai Hope, who starred in the second innings of the first Test, joined at four.
By the end of the first session, after 27 overs, the West Indies were 92-2. Tickner’s two quick wickets have given the Blackcaps hope on what is proving to be a batting-friendly pitch.
“Advantage West Indies” Grant Elliot said on Sport Nation.
Shai Hope (8 no) and John Campbell (44 no) look to build the score after lunch.
Blackcaps bowl first as Hay and Rae debut in overhauled side for second Test
The West Indies arrive in Wellington for the second Test with confidence after their dominant batting display to force a draw in Christchurch, while the Blackcaps were forced into major adjustments.
Injuries to Tom Blundell, Nathan Smith, Matt Henry, and Mitchell Santner reshape the Blackcaps bowling attack completely.
Mitch Hay debuts as wicketkeeper, Daryl Mitchell and Glenn Phillips return to the middle order, and Blair Tickner is recalled to reinforce the attack. Canterbury quick Michael Rae is also handed his first cap after strong domestic performances.
The West Indies make three changes, with Kavem Hodge, Brandon King, and Anderson Phillip replacing Alick Athanaze, Tagenarine Chanderpaul, and Johann Layne.
Tom Latham won the toss and opted to bowl first.
