Day 1 of everyone's favourite Test is in the books, with Australia reaching 8/326 at Stumps after choosing to bat first.
The opening day was one that threatened to get away from both sides, with big momentum swings throughout.
Alex Carey was the star of the day, making an emotional hundred, while Usman Khawaja made the most of his call-up to replace an unwell Steve Smith by making 82.
Even though the Aussies have the runs on the board, England would be happy with their efforts having been sent into field on a very hot day.

8:30 - Update on Steve Smith
Cricket Australia has given an update on Steve Smith after he was pulled from Australia's XI before play on Day 1 due to illness.

The superstar batter is still in Adelaide with the team despite the illness, and hopes to play in Melbourne in eight days' time.

"They're saying Steve Smith is still being monitored, saw a specialist yesterday just to get further advice about the condition, which is vertigo, he's still very hopeful of playing in Melbourne and is still in Adelaide with the team
"So, that's a concern."
