Forest player's Ange sledge as club does unthinkable
Six days and one match on from Ange Postecoglou being sacked by Nottingham Forest, the club has won its first game under new manager Sean Dyche, and one player couldn’t help but have a crack at the Australian.
Postecoglou was unceremoniously sacked 17 minutes after the club’s loss to Chelsea last weekend having been at the helm for just 39 days.
During his record-breaking short tenure, the Australian failed to secure a single victory in eight games with the club 18th on the ladder and staring down a real threat of a relegation battle.
Minutes after Forest secured a 2-0 victory against FC Porto in the Europa League on Friday morning (NZ Time), Morgan Gibbs-White wasted no time in telling the media he felt like “he could finally breathe again” after a “difficult couple of months”.
Gibbs-White scored a penalty to help Forest to their first victory in all competitions since August 17.
It is also the first time Porto have been beaten this season.
“I feel like I can finally breathe,' Gibbs-White told TNT Sports at full-time “It's been a difficult couple of months here with all the changes that have happened, the bad performances.
“So just happy to get our first win in nine games and to do it here at the City Ground and the European nights, it's an incredible feeling and there's no one here that deserves it more than the stadium, the fans.
“So we're delighted to get three points on the table and those three points are for the fans for sticking by us.'
“That was the first thing the gaffer came in and said, ‘last season you had a real identity, a real structure to how you play’ and he wants to bring that in, and he also wants to build on top of that, and I think we showed that tonight.
“We were solid, hard to break down and when we went forward we could have been a bit more clinical, a bit better, but we take the three points and we move on.”
Doubling down on the apparent change in vibe that came with Postecoglou’s arrival, Gibbs-White hailed the immediate impact Dyche has had on the squad.
“It's only been one game and we've only had a few training sessions, but you can feel the morale within the stadium,” he continued. “You can feel the morale within the group - it feels a lot higher, a lot more energetic.
“It feels a lot more positive and that's the way it needs to be and it needs to stay like that for us to continue and try to push forward. That's credit to the manager.”
Postecoglou is yet to speak publicly since being shown the door by club owner Evangelos Marinakis.
The writing was on the wall fairly early according to some experts who have questioned by the Australian took the job in the first place.
The Forest squad is the complete antithesis of Postecoglou’s style of play.
Earlier this year he was sacked by Tottenham despite winning the Europa League final.
