The Finals Countdown: Warriors reflect on missed opportunities as NRL Prelims loom

The One NZ Warriors' 2026 campaign ended in disappointment, with the squad hosting a subdued 'Mad Monday' as they came to terms with their early finals exit.
Speaking on Sport Nation's The Finals Countdown, Wahs halfback Tanah Boyd and club great Jerome Ropati joined host Sam Ackerman to reflect on a season that didn't quite meet the squad's own high expectations, who are already champing at the bit for a 2027 run.
Boyd and Ropati also pay tribute to the unwavering support of the Warriors' fanbase and discuss the confirmed early release of Adam Pompey, who is reportedly linked to the Storm.
As the NRL pivots to the Preliminary Finals to decide who heads to Accor Stadium for the Grand Final on October 4, the panel analyse the upcoming do-or-die matchups.
Penrith Panthers vs. Newcastle Knights
The Panthers enter as overwhelming $1.28 favorites - though star playmaker Nathan Cleary is managing a bone stress injury in his foot. The lads note that while the Knights boast an elite talent in Kalyn Ponga, they struggle to generate central attacking threats, a vulnerability Penrith is heavily favoured to exploit.
Sydney Roosters vs. The Dolphins
Boyd expressed a desire to see the Roosters advance so veteran halfback Daly Cherry-Evans can potentially go full circle by capping off both his rookie and final season with a premiership.
Conversely, Ropati is throwing his support behind the Dolphins, citing their expansive, risk-taking style of play and strong Kiwi contingent as reasons for a potential upset.
