Tasracing’s Sunday best bets at Hobart (20/07)
Punters have a nine-race card in Hobart, set to commence at 11:08.
The rail moves out to +6m from the +3m position a fortnight ago, and a soft track appears likely.

Best bet
Race 2 – 1. Alpine Fury
I liked the trials of Alpine Fury leading into his debut run, and he ran up to those performances with a strong second to Mel’s Street Above, who led all the way. He was one of the best sectional closers on the program that day, and while it’s a sharp rise in distance (1100-1400m), it should suit with an economical run from the inside barrier.
Next best
Race 1 – Just A Needs
Just A Needs has a clear class edge on her opposition in the opener. She was a touch plain two starts back, particularly given her SP, but she bounced back last time when second to Wineglass Bay, who’s unbeaten in Tasmania. Funny things can happen in small fields, but David Pires navigated a similar setup three starts back when victorious at the track and distance. Not diving into anything too skinny price-wise, but black odds would be more than fair.
Best each-way
Race 6 – 3. Tuskegee
It’s an even looking class 1 to start the quaddie, but I’ll side with the Devonport form in Tuskegee. He made a nice return on his home track, savaging the line from back in the field, in a race that has produced some decent subsequent form. This will be his first start in Hobart, but I think the big expanses will suit and I’ll happily play if an each-way price is offered.
