Star Warriors duo eager to stay put as contract decisions loom

Two of the Warriors most-important players are more focused on the finals rather than their futures, but there's no escaping the big decisions awaiting them off the field as to where those may lie.
Hooker Wayde Egan and utility back Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad are among those who are off-contract at the end of the 2027 NRL season, meaning they can test the market from November 1 this year.
Players can effectively enter free agency, with clubs also allowed to begin negotiations with them 12 months before their current deals end.
Egan has played 145 games for the Mount Smart club since joining from Penrith in 2020, and quickly established himself as the first choice dummy half.
He signed a two-year contract extension in 2024 which kicked in the following year.
"I haven't thought too much about it." Egan told Sport Nation, when queried about his future.

"I'm just trying to play good footy. And then I just sort of leave that to management and stuff like that. I just try and play each week as best I can for the Warriors. And I think it sort of takes care of itself if you do that."
However when asked if he wants to stay, Egan was more willing to give Warriors fans some potentially good news.
"I think so, yeah. It's pretty nice around here. Nice golf courses, not a bad crew. Not a bad crew to hang out with."
Nicoll-Klokstad, meanwhile, is in his second stint with the Warriors.
The 31-year-old re-joined the club in 2023, having spent four seasons with the Raiders, making the grand final in his first year in Canberra back in 2019.

He spent the first two seasons of his NRL career with the Warriors, though only played seven games.
He's gone on to play another 77 since his return, and brought up 150 career games in the qualifying final loss to the Dolphins.
"We'll have to see," Nicoll-Klokstad responded, when asked by Sport Nation if he plans to test the market.
"This is home. I love being here. I love being a part of this organisation and that's why I've got a manager - to look after all of that sort of stuff. We will see what happens.
"I feel like this has been a really good year for me. I feel I've learned so much, even when I haven't been on the pitch. Being back on the pitch post-injury, post-selection, I feel like I've got a bit of bounce in my step.
"I'm always looking to improve, I'm chasing the best version of myself and it's me versus me, so I feel like there's still a lot that I can give to this game and a lot I can give to this organisation, so we'll see."
