Giant deal: SEN secures new team in huge milestone

Sports Entertainment Group (SEG) is pleased to confirm it has reached agreement with Netball NSW to acquire the Super Netball licence currently operated as GIANTS Netball, with SEG to assume ownership from 1 October 2026 onwards.
The team will continue to be based in Sydney, with further details regarding the club's identity, brand and long-term vision to be announced in due course.
The acquisition marks a significant milestone in SEG's growing commitment to netball, having entered the sport three years ago through the establishment of the Melbourne Mavericks.
SEG has become firmly invested in the future of netball and believes the potential of the sport is infinite. The organisation looks forward to playing a leading role in helping grow netball nationally, particularly in Western Sydney and New South Wales where participation, pathways and fan engagement continue to present significant opportunities.
While a new chapter begins, SEG acknowledges the incredible legacy it is inheriting.
For the past decade, the licence has been a cornerstone of elite netball in New South Wales, developing world-class athletes, building a passionate supporter base and establishing a strong reputation both on and off the court. The club's coaches, athletes, staff, members, partners and supporters have created an organisation that has played a vital role in the growth of the game.
CEO of SEN Teams, Richard Simkiss, said the acquisition reflects SEG's belief in the future of netball and its long-term commitment to the sport.
"We are absolutely thrilled to be expanding our commitment to netball through the acquisition of this additional Super Netball licence," Simkiss said.
"Over the past three years we've had the privilege of being part of the sport through the Melbourne Mavericks and that experience has only strengthened our belief in the incredible future netball has in Australia.
"The work done over the past ten years has created a strong foundation, with loyal members, valued partners and a proud history. We have enormous respect for what has been built, and we're committed to helping take it forward into its next era."
SEG's commitment to netball extends well beyond team ownership with SEN Netball completing its third consecutive season covering Suncorp Super Netball in 2026, broadcasting a Match of the Round every week. Additionally, Centre Court with Kelsey Browne produced by SEG's television production business, Rainmaker, enjoyed significant audience growth throughout the 2026 season.
SEN Netball also produces popular Sunday morning live netball show Nothing But Netball, featuring Jelisa Apps and Giants star midcourter, Amy Sligar. The show, which airs on SEN 1170am in Sydney, SENQ 693am in Brisbane and beyond, is a key part of the extended netball coverage throughout the country that will increase further on the back of the acquisition.
SEG's investment in the sport has also been demonstrated through the growth of the Melbourne Mavericks since entering the competition in 2024. In 2026, the Mavericks recorded the most successful season in club history, securing the franchise's maiden finals appearance, a club-record nine wins and its highest ever ladder finish. Membership, attendance and digital engagement records were also achieved throughout the year.
Simkiss said SEG sees significant opportunities to continue supporting the growth of both clubs while creating new value for fans, partners and the broader netball community.

Beyond netball, SEG has a strong and growing presence in women's sport. SEN Teams currently also operates two Women's National Basketball League clubs, while Rainmaker serves as the WNBL's broadcast production partner. Through those investments, SEG has demonstrated its ability to grow sporting organisations commercially while maintaining appropriate governance protocols and operational independence between clubs competing in the same competition.
Further announcements regarding the club's identity, leadership structure and future vision will be made in the coming weeks as SEG begins the next chapter of elite netball in New South Wales.
