Saturday best bets from Luke & Taggart (08/11)
Cam Luke & David Taggart have your Saturday sorted on Trackside.
The lads have taken a close look at Flemington & Rosehill in a bid to find the family some winners.
See their best bets below:👇
Cam Luke
FLEMINGTON
R3-3 King of Roseau (each-way)Resumes here after being tipped out after a great win down the straight here! A little toe into the ground won’t be a concern and he goes ok first-up! The query I have is that he is drawn closer to the inside, and I don’t know how that plays! He gets back a little so can come off heels to better part and I expect him to run well!
R4-1 AlalcanceDrawn perfectly to go and control the race. There is some speed engaged (sea what I see) but TC will be able to get to the fence. Was ok in the Wyong Cup when held up a couple of times. Rain won’t concern her at all! 2000m feels perfect after a freshen up and a nice couple of trials. Will be very hard to beat!
R5-1 Birdman
Was decent in the CC albeit shortest way home but this is way easier! Has to carry the weight today but that won’t stop him! My little Q is where he might lob from that gate! I’m going to back J Mac in to find a backside. It’s a very open race but I expect him to be very hard to toss!
CHAMPIONS SPRINTNo major speed in this race on paper which is insane for a great G1 sprint race.
IF THE TRACK STAYS SOFT 5/6 R6-6 JoliestarWas great first-up as normal and then was ok in the Everest! That form stacks up her for obvious reasons. Won the Newmarket here easily in the Autumn and is drawn on the best part of the track. Will also be in front of Tentyris & Giga Kick!
IF THE TRACK GETS TO HEAVY R6-7 Magic Time (each way)Wasn’t as horrible in The Everest even though she finished last. She is huge on heavy track when she says it! If the track becomes a bog she won’t be the current price of $15 when they jump!
CHAMPIONS MILE
This is the race of the spring and I can’t wait for it!
R7-1 Mr BrightsideMr B is the toughest horse in Australia. Should have ran 8th in the King Charles. He is the best miler in the country and gets conditions to suit. Only 3 weeks between runs today helps him more than the 5 into last race. Soft and if Heavy track is his jam!!!
R7-9 Treasurethe MomentI thought was great in the Cox Plate and Mr B dropped back last year to win it and I think she can as well! Will get a little trail into the race rather than have to do the donkey work today. She loves soft but unsure on heavy, but she is strong girl! Will be a fast run race which suits her and she is a major chance!
I’ve also had the Quinella with these 2 and a same race multi for them to both run Top 3.
CHAMPIONS STAKESVia Sistina is the best Horse in the country and almost certainly wins. If Via Sistina is to get beat though!
R9-1 Tom Kitten (place)Had a splintered prep but hits this fourth-up and finally back to 2000m. Was good in the KC, really good and a heavy track suits him today. I’m not backing him to beat VS but he is way better odds to run a place than she is too win and that’s the play here!
ROSEHILL
R3-2 ThebudgiesmuglaDon’t want it any shorter than $2.50 but he is the horse to beat! Clearly way too good up to 2400m last start and this is the same field! On a good track today shouldn’t slow him up! He is a nice stayer in the making and he is rock hard fit. He gets back so as long as run on horses aren’t majorly disadvantaged, he will go bang!!!
R4-2 Tuned (each-way)Resumes here as a gelding. Drawn really nice to box seat once the speed comes across him (Midnight Dynamite / Just Too Fly). Has trialled well twice leading into this so the 1200m suits. Group 3 placed last prep which is good enough for this! Would love a little rain to help him but it isn’t essential and I think at $9 he is over the odds and great each way play!
R7-9 BauhiniaHas had zero luck!! Twice!!!!! Was closing off really well last start and this is easier although only slightly!! She stays at the 1400m which is a tick and the good track numbers don’t read amazing - tougher races where things didn’t go her way. She will get back so luck is always at a premium but whenever she gets it, she will win! Hopefully it’s today!
R8-8 Rise At DawnDrawn way better than others in the market and from gate 1 he will roll forward. He was good at Moonee Valley in the mile and looked gone yet still toughed it out for third. Up to 1800m first time works as he will control this race at his desired speed. Good track clearly to his liking and no doubt this has been his GF which might not be the case for a couple of others in the market! I like Nash on and he will take getting run down!!
R9-2 Weeping WomanHasn’t been asked to do much in a couple of trials but normally runs well 1st up! 1100m is a distance she enjoys and will either lead here or sit OSL. Good track no issue and with the speed map, will be very hard to toss!!
R10-5 MawjoodBack to 1400m is key for this bloke who was backed but then way too keen last couple over the mile! He enjoys Rosehill and he will have the delicious run from the gate! Parr back on as he was 3 back when won here and all those factors have him on top for me!!

FLEMINGTON
Race 2, No.9 - RESET THE JAZZ (value) resumes and has looked good winning both his trials. This is his pet trip and he comes right into this with the rain expected to hit.
Race 3, No.15 - BIG SWINGER resumes and he flies fresh with all his wins being over this trip. Soft track is no worries and he is a galloper on the up. With only 54kg on his back and drawn the right side of the track he should be winning.
Race 4, No.5 - SHE’S A HUSTLER is as honest as they come and she won like a serious horse last start. This is her pet trip and she will have a bunny to chase again in Sea What I See. This is basically the same race as last time with 8 of the 11 runners to contest this.
Race 5, No.12 - WHISKY ON THE HILL has had no luck in recent times even when he won. The Geelong Cup form is looking good and he can go close as he goes on any surface. Hopefully he is ridden close to the speed.
ROSEHILL
Race 4, No.3 - JUST TOO FLY joins Waller and is a group winner in the West. Has trialled up well enough for this and looks to have ability. This is only a 78 and I’m hoping he’s just too good for them.
