Mohamed Salah has finally ended speculation about his future and signed a two-year contract with Trabzonspor which will earn the Egypt forward $19.6m (NZ$33.5m) a season, his new club said.
The announcement came as Trabzon's fans prepared to head for the club's stadium in the eastern Black Sea city on Friday (NZ time) for a ceremony to mark the former Liverpool player's signing on a free transfer.
Thousands of supporters cheered in Trabzonspor's stadium, waving club flags, holding torches and chanting songs.
"The last couple of days, it's an experience I've never had in my life. I just want to thank every one of you for being here today. I am feeling so much love here I never expected that reception," 34-year-old Salah said during the signing ceremony.
"I am here to win, I want to win something with this club because you showed me so much love. I appreciate that."
Salah left Liverpool in the close season after nine years, having scored 257 goals in 442 appearances and having won the Premier League twice and the Champions League.

Meanwhile, Brazil winger Vinicius Junior has ended speculation over his future by agreeing a new six-year contract with Real Madrid.
Arsenal had been heavily linked with a move for Vinicius, who had entered the final 12 months of his deal at the Bernabeu.
A tumultuous 2025-26 campaign where Real went trophyless and initial uncertainly after the arrival of Jose Mourinho as head coach alerted the likes of Arsenal, but Vinicius has now committed his long-term future to the Spanish giants.
Real have also reached an agreement with RB Leipzig to sign Ivory Coast winger Yan Diomande, the Spanish club said, in a deal which could become the most expensive in the club's history.
Details were not disclosed, but reports in Spain suggested it could surpass the fee Real paid for England midfielder Jude Bellingham in 2023.
Diomande, 19, enjoyed a breakthrough season with Leipzig, scoring 12 Bundesliga goals and providing nine assists to help the German side finish third.
He joined Leipzig from Spanish club Leganes last year and played for Ivory Coast at the recent World Cup, where they reached the last 32. He has signed a seven-year contract with Real.
