"Ruthless sport": Is retirement next for Nick Kyrgios?
His latest injury setback could prove to be the end for Nick Kyrgios and his tennis career after the Australian star ruled himself out of Wimbledon.
The 30-year-old has endured an injury-laden three years with his knee the most recent issue.
He was a late withdrawal from the French Open last month and this week announced he would miss Wimbledon where he has not played since he lost to Novak Djokovic in the 2022 Final.
In fact, Kyrgios has played at just two Grand Slams since the 2022 defeat, reaching the US Open quarters in the same year and then losing his first round clash at this year’s Australian Open.
SEN’s tennis expert Brett Phillips believes this latest setback could mark the end for the Australian.

“We’re just so used to not seeing Nick on a court,” Phillips told SENQ Breakfast.
“It’s been about three years now since he made that Wimbledon final.
“We’re just used to his absence.
“I would say it’s getting pretty tough for him to continue to be a professional tennis player; his body just keeps letting him down.
“It’s recurring injuries and I’m not privy to how he rehabs and the attention to detail to getting his body right, but it’s going to be tough.
“Even if he does come back, what sort of impact is he going to have? The game has continued to evolve and shift.
“These guys are dedicated pros week in week out, it’s ruthless.
"He could probably come back and serve big, play big, he has a great game (but) from all reports he’s getting pretty frustrated that he can't get out there and he may just pull the pin.”
Kyrgios, who has never won a singles Grand Slam title but did win the men’s doubles alongside good friend Thanasi Kokkinakis at the 2022 Australian Open, took to Instagram to confirm his latest issue.
"I've hit a small setback in my recovery and unfortunately won't make it back for grass season this year," he wrote.
"I know how much you've all been looking forward to seeing me out there, and I'm genuinely sorry to disappoint. This is just a bump in the road, though, and I'm already working hard to get back stronger than ever.
"Thank you for all your continued support. It means everything to me. See you soon."
