Perth Bears GM refuses to rule out potential Lomax interest
Perth Bears GM David Sharpe has refused to rule out a play for Zac Lomax after the former Eels star was spotted touring the Western Force's facilities in Perth.
A move to rugby has emerged as an option for Lomax with the World Cup in Australia in 2027, with Europe or Japan another potential option for the winger.
A reported condition of Lomax’s release from the Eels was that the winger couldn’t return to the NRL with another side until his original contract would have run out.
However, if that condition was waived by the Eels, the Bears could be in the box seat as one of a few clubs with the cap space to match what he was on at Parramatta.
“I think we'll just follow the media and see where Zac lands because, every given day, they know the story and what we're doing,” Sharpe told SEN 1170 Drive.
“We had Zac in the Australian team, (he’s a) fantastic guy.
“(It would) be stupid to rule out Zac in any way coming to us.
“We’re yet to see where he lands over there, but it'd be good to have him in Perth.”
Lomax’s management has reportedly reached out to Rugby Australia officials about the winger’s chances of making the Wallabies squad for the World Cup.

Sharpe also teased the Bears will announce a big signing in the coming days after the side’s inaugural four players were confirmed.
Former Bulldogs’ halfback Toby Sexton headlines Perth’s first signings, which also includes English representative Harry Newman, Bulldogs’ rookie Luke Smith and Cowboys’ youngster Marly Bitungane.
“We've had the four signings announced this week, but we're doing that our way,” Sharpe said.
“We're respecting confidentiality with players who are signing and have clubs and they want to tell their teammates, some of whom aren't even back at training yet.
“We'll have another profile player in the coming days.
“Just because we're not announcing doesn't mean we're not signing.
“So, the next couple of weeks you'll see some exciting announcements from us, all going well, but we're looking at depth, youth experience, looking at how the Dolphins did it… looking at how Melbourne's set up around the family community when that all kicked off.
“There’s a lot of lessons out there and a lot of things for us to learn as we sort of write each chapter of a new book.”
Sharpe did confirm, however, the club saw South Africa as a major opportunity for the club to attract international rugby union talent.
“We're yet to see but certainly South Africa, I can confirm, is a priority catchment area for us,” Sharpe revealed.
“(There’s a) big South African community in Perth, and we are engaged in South Africa and particularly in the very strong union schools over there.”
The Perth Bears will join the NRL in 2027.
