Drinkwater confirms immediate future amid exit rumours
Scott Drinkwater has confirmed he isn’t seeking a move away from the North Queensland Cowboys, revealing he wants to see out the full-length of his contract.
Reports emerged saying Drinkwater’s position wasn’t secure at the Cowboys beyond the end of his current contract which concludes in 2027.
However, the 28-year-old has extinguished speculation, declaring he wants to be a Cowboy.
“It's just a bit of another day in the rugby league world,” Drinkwater told SEN 1170 Around the Grounds.

“The article said something like my current position's not secure past my current deal or something. No one's position is really secure once your contract's up.
“It's all just a bit of talk here, talk there.
“I've heard nothing from the club. I haven't gone and asked for anything.
“I'll put it to bed and say that I'm going nowhere for 2026, and I want to be here for 2027 as well.”
The Cowboys’ fullback has played 143 games for the club since arriving mid-season in 2019 and has become a mainstay in the side since.
Drinkwater finished fifth in the Dally M voting in 2024, and third in 2023.
He has scored 54 total career tries, and set up 24 tries in 2025, the second most in the NRL behind Reece Walsh.
