“He’s got a contract”: Eels firm on keeping Lomax from R360

The Parramatta Eels General Manager of Football, Mark O’Neill, has made it clear that Zac Lomax is a required player for next season.
Having joined the Eels from St George this season, Lomax has continued his strong form in what was a promising season for the Eels under Jason Ryles’ first season in charge.
The winger who managed to average just under 200 run metres per game and scored nine tries this season would once again earn selection for the NSW State of Origin side.
He has also garnered the attention of the upstart R360 competition, which has made an attempt to sign him.
And it was reported earlier in the month by News Corp that the 26-year-old was about to sign a deal with the league that has Saudi Arabian, English and American backers.
But with three seasons remaining on his contract, O’Neill was quick to reinforce the view that, despite speculation of his departure, Lomax still has a deal in place with the Eels to see him remain at the club.
“Well, he’s got an existing contract with us,” O’Neill said on SEN 1170’s The Run Home.
“I know there has been speculation in the press about (R)360, and his name has been linked to a few things here and there.
“But all I’ll say is that he’s got an existing contract with us. He’s played some great football this year. Obviously, he pulled out with an injury for the recent Kangaroos tour, played Origin.
“I think he is an elite player. So yeah, he’s got an existing contract with us.”
Should Lomax sign with R360, it is expected that the NRL would hand down a 10-year ban to any player who signs with the rebel competition.
It is understood that R360 organisers are planning on the league starting in 2026 with six male teams and four female teams.
His contract with the Eels concludes after the 2028 season.
