Voss: The players who should be dropped for Australia's final Ashes Test
SEN’s Andrew Voss has called for several Kangaroos players to be dropped for the third and final Ashes Test against England after an underwhelming display.
Australia were well below their best in the 14-4 win at sold out Hill Dickinson Stadium in Liverpool. The Kangaroos scored two tries to nil as they clinched the three-match series.
Voss wants to see coach Kevin Walters make a big statement at the selection table and formally drop players who he felt weren’t carrying their weight.
“I would drop players,” Voss declared on SEN 1170 Breakfast.
“I don’t say it lightly because I thought that was an awful performance.
“It was poor and the expectation that Australia were going to get better from week one didn’t happen.
“Their attack went south and the completion rate was around 60%. England were also bordering on woeful in attack.
“England could still be playing right now and still not score a point.
“I am making changes to make the team better, not to just give blokes a run.
“Bradman Best has gone on a couple of tours for Australia and (he replaces) Gehamat Shibasaki.
“I don’t think Lindsay Smith gave much off the bench and Lindsay Collins didn’t give much to the starting side.
“Both of those players would give way to Jacob Preston who gets a run.
“Collins had three runs and Smith had two. There’s not great output there so I have reason to drop those two players.
“I would give Mitchell Moses a run over Nathan Cleary. He’s played okay but I’d give Moses the run over him.
“I would make changes and drop players after a very ordinary Australia performance.
“If you’re honest, you are not basking in the glory of Ashes success. You are expected to play far better than that.”

SEN’s Greg Alexander agreed that there needed to be changes made to the team irrespective of performance.
Despite the issues in attack, Alexander praised the defence shown from the Kangaroos across the opening two Tests.
“Individualy, there weren’t many players who could say that they played well,” Alexander said on SEN 1170 Breakfast.
“As a team, England had a lot of ball and a lot of field position in the opening 20 minutes.
“You can be critical of the attack and I am. They defended well as a team.”
The Kangaroos head to Leeds for the final match of the Ashes series on Sunday 1:30am AEDT.
Australia lead the three-match series 2-0.
