Kiwi Olympic surfer Saffi Vette aims to keep the vibes high for the World Surf League’s first New Zealand visit.
Joining Sport Nation’s Scotty & Izzy on Thursday, Vette claimed: “my special job is vibe checking, so making sure everyone's having a bloody good time.”
The Corona Cero New Zealand Pro commences this weekend at Manu Bay in Raglan, marking the start of a new era by debuting the elite combined men’s and women’s Championship Tour in NZ.
“I think everyone's really stoked to be here, like the vibes are really high, all the locals have been watching on the hill every afternoon, the car parks been pretty full outside of the comp zone.
“And everyone's just so frothing.”
Currently nursing an injury, Vette isn't letting her inability to compete temper her enthusiasm.
"I'm living my absolute dream right now, no pressure whatsoever.

“I think it's a good stepping stone to potentially help us in the future and get us on that next stage too.”
The event's impact on the next generation of Kiwi surfers can't be understated, she adds, noting the kids running up and down the Manu Bay point like 'headless chickens’ to get their heroes' autographs.
“The local groms are having an absolute blast and absolutely fanboy and girling out, so it's pretty sick to see.”
Originally from Gisborne, Vette said she would love for the competition to venture to the East Coast.
“I'll put in the hard yards this week and we'll see where we get to.”
