Moses triumphantly returns to compound dramatic week for Wests Tigers
Mitchell Moses has taken the throne as the new king of Parramatta, and it was an 80-minute coronation in Moses’ first game of 2025 as the Eels compounded a painful week for the Wests Tigers with a 38-22 victory.
Moses emphatically made his case to partner Nathan Cleary in the New South Wales halves for State of Origin I with a standout three try assist performance and a superb 40/20 that helped set up the Eels’ first try.
The Eels were 1-5 coming into the Easter Monday clash but looked a different side with Moses steering the play and allowing five-eighth to Dylan Brown to revert to his natural running game, running 201m in his best performance of the season.
Eels’ winger Josh Addo-Carr spoke to SEN League post-game about the influence Mitch Moses had on the side.
“He’s next level, I’ve never seen anything like that,” Addo-Carr said.
“Someone who comes into the team and took control of the team all week and it showed on the field. It was a gritty win and I’m proud of the boys’ efforts.
“(He brings) experience and leading the boys around. The fella who runs the ship is so important, especially in our attack.
“I feel like that’s what we missed especially at the start of the season.”
For the Wests Tigers however, the loss capped off a week to forget that began with the announcement on Monday that star rookie Lachlan Galvin would leave the club at the end of his contract, and allegations of bullying, Galvin's public axing, and a dramatic press conference filling in the gaps.
Terrell May did his Origin hopes no harm with a try and 133 metres in another big minute display, while doubles to Josh Addo-Carr and Isaiah Iongi ultimately got the Eels over the line.
Winger Sunia Turuva was sin binned at a crucial time for inciting a scuffle during the second, making a bad week worse for the Wests Tigers winger, after a story mocking Lachlan Galvin on Instagram was leaked, prompting accusations of bullying within the club.
It remains to be seen if Galvin will be recalled to the side after playing reserve grade earlier today, with Benji Marshall refusing to elaborate on his rookie five-eighth’s future post-game.
“It’s been a big week no doubt for the club,” Marshall said.
“They’ve never let him (Galvin) out (of the training group).
“You saw them at training, I didn’t think there was a drama.”
