‘Momentum on our side’: Kostecki eyes Jason Richards Trophy ahead of NZ Supercars double-header

Current Supercars Championship leader Brodie Kostecki hopes to stay on top and take the Jason Richards Memorial Trophy to Australia following the New Zealand rounds.
Having never won the trophy himself, Kostecki told Sport Nation Mornings that Dick Johnson and Shell V-Power Racing would love to have the hardware back in their workshop.
“That trophy is very special to everyone, he (Jason Richards) was regarded to be one of the best drivers on the grid and unfortunately was taken away too soon.”
Despite leading the championship, Kostecki says the team is focused on executing every time they hit the track. Last year's Taupō event saw the Aussie driver start on pole position in Race 9 and 10, finishing 3rd and 4th respectively.
“I feel like the team (Dick Johnson Racing) is in a good spot at the moment and we’ve got a bit of momentum on our side so hopefully we can convert those pole positions that we had into race wins.”
With the excitement for the double header and Christchurch being a much anticipated addition to the Supercars calendar, Kostecki said it will be interesting to see how the Ruapuna track will race.
The 28-year-old and his rookie teammate Rylan Gray did some laps at the South Island track which he described as a small and windy “goat track” a couple of weeks ago.
Tune into Sport Nation for live commentary of the Supercars Championship in Taupo (April 11-12) and Christchurch (April 18-19).
