Meninga: Revenge is a motivator, changes might not help Queensland
SEN • June 5th, 2025 5:22 pm

When Mal Meninga was asked during SEN's The Throwdown, "How do Queensland approach Game II?", here's what he had to say:
"The answer to that question comes from what was said prior to Game I. I’m not privy to what happened before that, but they will have had good chats with the leadership group, Munster, DCE, Grant etc.
"There would be a conversation about what was expected of the team. If he (Slater) feels the expectations weren’t fulfilled in that game, then what’s the ramifications and who let the team down?
"Revenge is a strong motivator particularly in Origin, I wouldn’t be venturing too far away from the team they picked with the view they want and need to exact revenge.
"They need to come out and play well and get the second chance, they wont let their mates and state down.
"I think they need to look at their plan particularly around attack and scoring points.
"How they can get momentum against the Blues defence which was very good. The Blues defensive line didn’t have a hole in it, it was difficult for QLD to make a line break."

"They need a plan that will break the blues defence that’s the key. Motivation is a huge thing when you’re one nil down and they’re going somewhere they have struggled (Perth) that’s another motivation.
"I truly believe they’re up for it. If you believe in the team and the plan going into battle that will help you be successful.
"They won’t have two bad games in a row. You have off nights, and you don’t want to be dropped you want to help make up for it to make sure it won’t happen again.
"All the media is carrying on about pick and stick and that crap, but you’re not stupid enough to keep making mistakes. You have to be smart about the way you go about your business. Pick and stick is great if you’re winning."
