Is she back? The post-colic reality for Treasurethe Moment
Treasurethe Moment burst onto the scene in her three-year-old year, winning a whopping eight races, including the Group 1 Oaks (2500m), Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m) and Group 1 Australian Oaks (2400m).
When the daughter of Alabama Express returned for her four-year-old season last spring, the Matt Laurie-trained mare impressively won the Group 1 Memsie Stakes (1400m) first-up.
However, after that win, the brown contracted a mild case of colic has only won one race from her last seven starts – a stark contrast to her previous dominating best.
On Saturday, the four-year-old ran third in the Group 1 Queen Of The Turf (1600m) against her own sex – a performance which seen as impressive by many pundits.
Speaking on SENTrack’s Saturday Trackside, racing analyst Mick Comerford exclaimed that Treasurethe Moment’s best moving forward will now be what she showed in the Queen Of The Turf.
Comerford: “Treasure was really good there, she’s back!”
Taggart: "I wouldn’t say that, I don't think she's back.”
Comerford: “The one thing I'll say about Treasurethe Moment though is that her peak performance in that first-up run (in the spring), the Memsie, that's just an outlier.
“I think that's her at her best now, what she just showed (in the Queen Of The Turf).
“I didn't mean to say she's back to where she was when she won that first-up run.”
Taggart: “Yeah, I agree. I don't think she's been at her best since colic.”
“You know who the perfect person to ask this question to is - Damian Lane.
“Is she the same horse since she had colic? I bet you he’d say no.”
Cam Luke chimed in the conversation, suggesting that the Yulong Investments-owned horse may have been slightly overrated by the public, thanks to her phenomenal three-year-old year.
Luke: “Hang on, she smashed three-year-old fillies.”
Taggart: “Yeah and then came out and smashed an open grade.”
Luke: “That race (the Memsie) didn't hold up form - Another Wil was your favourite, then ran about 12 lengths last, Mr Brightside ran second, he was early in his prep… The form wasn’t really franked.
“I think too many people look at her three-year-old form and think, ‘My God, she was going to be the best horse in the country.’
“Her best wins were at three-year-old filly grade.”
When asked if Treasurethe Moment can win another Group 1 in her career, Luke was of the belief that she will, whereas the former hoop believes the mare will struggle to achieve that feat.
Luke: “Yeah, she will.”
Taggart: “I think she'll struggle. If so, it'll be a mare’s Group 1.
Treasurethe Moment isn’t favoured in the 2026 Cox Plate market with Sportsbet ($26) despite finishing third in the 2025 edition.
Will the mare be able to get another Group 1 on the board in her career?
