Black Ferns great Kelly Brazier has called time on her international rugby career, closing the curtain on an 18-year journey across XVs and sevens.
One of New Zealand’s most versatile and decorated playmakers, Brazier earned 44 Test caps for the Black Ferns winning two Rugby World Cups along the way.
In 2025, she became just the second woman to appear at four World Cups, marking a remarkable return to the Test arena after not playing internationally since 2021.
Her sevens CV is equally glittering, featuring two Sevens World Cup titles, seven World Series crowns, Olympic and Commonwealth gold medals, silver at the 2016 Rio Olympics and bronze at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
Brazier said the decision to retire came as she began to feel the physical and mental toll of competing at the highest level.

“I wanted to step away while I could still contribute at my best,” she said.
“To represent New Zealand and play at the Olympics multiple times is something I’m incredibly proud of. It’s been an honour I’ll always hold close to my heart.”
She also confirmed she will transition into coaching, a long-held ambition.
Black Ferns Sevens head coach Cory Sweeney paid tribute to Brazier’s professionalism and influence, describing her as a trailblazer whose training standards, rugby intelligence and mentorship have left a lasting impact on the programme.
"She has not only been world-class on the field but her willingness to support, house and nurture future athletes is also a great attribute of hers.
"Kelly is a wāhine trailblazer, leaving a legacy and pathway for the next generation."
