“Not going anywhere”: Maxwell turns down big offer to re-sign with Stars
Melbourne Stars great Glenn Maxwell has turned down rival interest to re-sign for a further two BBL seasons.
According to News Corp, Maxwell received an offer from the Sydney Thunder which would have made him close to the highest paid player in the competition next season.
While Maxwell acknowledged those offers came his way, he says it was always going to have to take something extraordinary for him to leave the club, which he’s played at for 14 seasons.
“I don't know when it's going to get announced, but I suppose I can probably announce it on here, I’m not going anywhere,” Maxwell told SEN Whateley.
“It has been an incredible journey with the Stars and when you do have knock like this year where we felt like we were probably right in the mix for winning the trophy (it makes you hungry).
“I suppose when you fall short in the end in pretty brutal circumstances it can knock you around a bit, but it’s fair to say I won't be going anywhere.
“Yeah (there were offers), but, as I said, it's going to take a lot to get someone out of their home.
“You only have to look at the Perth Scorchers. It's virtually impossible to get those guys out of their state.
“I'm pretty ingrained here. I love having my family time around Christmas, and it's probably hard for me to move outside of Melbourne.”

Maxwell, 37, has played 123 matches for the Stars, scoring 3,193 runs for the club since moving over from the Renegades after the maiden BBL season.
Having gotten so close so often with the men in green without winning the title, Maxwell is certainly determined to win it all while trying to set up the club for sustained success down the line.
“I certainly am (determined to win it all here),” Maxwell said.
“But I also want to be able to set the club up for future success, to become a club like the Perth Scorchers where they're having consistent success.
“Even if they're not quite having their best season, they still find a way to make it work.
“It’s also I suppose to help with the next crop of Melbourne Stars players who are going to be there for a long time and carrying the mantle forward when I'm done.
“Setting the club up for sustained success is something I'm also really focused on.”
Maxwell next turns his focus to Australia’s T20 World Cup campaign which begins next month in India and Sri Lanka.
