Aussie Born Breakers import loves thought of representing Tall Blacks

Breakers new import Preston Le Gassick joined the NBL side ahead of the upcoming season after a four-year collegiate stint at Palm Beach Atlantic University in Florida.

The Australian-born player spoke about the upcoming NBL season as well as his desire to put on the black singlet for New Zealand in the future.

Le Gassick was born and grew up on the Gold Coast to an Australian father and a Kiwi mother, who was born in Manawatū.

The new import wasn’t shy about his love for New Zealand and the welcoming feeling he’s felt during his time here.

“Coming to New Zealand. Love it. Love staying here, love the people around here, love the community. It's really like a family over here and I just love being a part of this programme.” Le Gassick said.

“Everyone just includes you. They want you to succeed, and I feel like that's one of the most important things, especially in a team and sporting environment. You just want to be a part of it, and why would you want to leave when you can just stay in this beautiful place?”

Looking ahead to the upcoming NBL season, Le Gassick said that the team had a strong group and would be well in the championship mix come finals time.

“Honestly, I feel like we have every piece to go win a championship.” Le Gassick said.

“With (Vasiljevic), and PJC, and Sam (Mennenga) and there's a lot of good core pieces that we've got as a team that (Dillion) Bouchers recruited.”

We're just we're really excited to get it underway this weekend.”

The NBL action kicks off this week with the five-day preseason Blitz tournament in Bendigo, Australia ahead of the Breakers regular season opener on September 20 in Auckland.

Le Gassick gives the Breakers faithful an insight into how the team will look on opening night at Spark Arena.

“He (Gordon Herbert) just wants us to get out and run, take good shots, get out and run quickly, and be entertaining."

We just want to get out, and put a lot points up.”
