Will England suffer a record breaking series defeat?
With the Ashes seemingly wrapped up following a strong Australian performance on Day 3, this has raised questions around how England has performed during the series.
At the end of Day 3 in the third Test, Australia is leading by 356 runs with six wickets remaining in their second innings, with victory in the match and in the series appearing all but certain barring a minor miracle.
Considering the amount of build-up there had been prior to the series, the performances, particularly England’s, have so far been disappointing, with many expecting this to be far closer than it has been.
And in commentary, Gerard Whateley and Simon Katich would remark on that disappointment of the series being won in potentially record time.
Whateley: “The retention of the Ashes, if it were to happen tomorrow, it would be in record time of 10 playing days.”
“The mark is at 11 (days). It’s not playing on anyone’s mind, but it will be done in 11, as fast as it’s ever been done.
“All the build up…”
Katich: “Yeah.”
“It’s been put to bed very quickly. We’ve been sucked in by this England team.
“Their own talk, they’ve talked themselves up.”
And post-game, the former opener in Katich would give an even blunter assessment of their likely demise.
“England are going to get embarrassed in this Test match,” he said.
The Aussies will look to try and finish the series off when the action resumes for Day 4.
SEN’s coverage of the Test match begins from 8am AEDT with The New Ball before rolling into SEN's live coverage from the Adelaide Oval from 9am AEDT.
