Cornes: The rival coach Carlton must ask the question of
Kane Cornes believes Carlton should be asking the question of Fremantle’s Justin Longmuir.
In the wake of Michael Voss’ departure from the Blues, a lot of talk has centred around who could possibly replace him at Ikon Park.
Cornes reckons Longmuir, who is without a contract for 2027, is one man the Blues should go after given he does not have job security at Freo despite their strong start to the 2026 season.
“If you want the best available coach right now, I think it’s Justin Longmuir,” Cornes said on Channel 7’s The Agenda Setters.
“If you’re looking and ranking who are the best coaches in the league, I’ve got him as the sixth best coach in the league right now.”
Cornes added: “Go and at least try and get him. Try and give him a five-year deal at $6 million.
“Give him the security that he needs that Fremantle have been unprepared to give him.
“He is coaching extremely well, eight (wins) in a row ... And he’s available right now and he’s the sixth best coach in the league. Go and get him.”
Cornes admits it’s long odds but cannot see any harm in asking the question.
"Maybe he's happy at Fremantle, I get it's a long shot,” he conceded.
“But at least try and get him if you want a known product that you know can do the job right now."
Longmuir currently has the Dockers sitting second on the ladder with a record of 8-1 ahead of Sunday’s clash with Essendon.
